Unmoored

Unmoored: In mythology, boats are vessels for ferrying between physical and spiritual worlds. This encaustic piece started during the process of my mother’s transition to the next world. The vessel evolved with tissue paper and layers of hot wax, and the markings of anticipatory grief. Upon her passing, I felt adrift, lost at sea as waves of actual grief transported me to new levels of empathy and compassion. I often work to transcend and transform experiences, looking for those “cracks in darkness where the light breaks through”. Life’s richness is in the hot combo of our depth and willingness to share it.
